Vineyard Theatre Extends Paula Vogel's INDECENT
The Vineyard Theatre announces that Indecent - a new play with music, written by Paula Vogel, created by Paula Vogel and Rebecca Taichman and directed by Rebecca Taichman - will extend its run at the Vineyard (108 E. 15 St.) through June 19. The play opened on Tuesday, May 17 to uniformly positive/rave reviews.
INDECENT is presented by Vineyard Theatre in association with La Jolla Playhouse and Yale Repertory Theatre. Indecent features music composed by Lisa Gutkin (KLEZMATICS) and Aaron Halva (RED NOSES) and choreography by David Dorfman (GREEN VIOLIN).
The cast of Indecent includes Katrina Lenk (ONCE), Mimi Lieber (ACT ONE), Max Gordon Moore (RELATIVELY SPEAKING), Tom Nelis (THE VISIT), Steven Rattazzi (THE FOURTH SISTER), Richard Topol (FISH IN THE DARK) and Adina Verson (HIM).
Paula Vogel will be the Special Guest oat a Talk Back after the performance of Indecent on June 10th.
On Saturday, June 11, Ms. Vogel will present one of her celebrated, trademark workshops about theater: BOOT CAMP finds her in teacher/guide mode as she works with participants to expand their creative tools and thought process about what theatre can be and do. The BOOT CAMP provides the opportunity to join writing exercises designed to inspire creative responses to Aristotle's ELEMENTS OF DRAMA, and participants will write shorts pieces from specific prompts in an inspiring and non-intimidating environment.
As a thank you to Vineyard patrons, donors who support Vineyard Theatre's spring fundraising campaign with a $2,500 contribution or above will be guaranteed a place in Boot Camp. Patrons can also underwrite a spot in Boot Camp for an aspiring writer. Either select a writer you know or allow The Vineyard to choose a writer for you.
If you or someone you know would be interested in joining us for this very special opportunity, please contact Jessie Pitluk, Development Manager, at 212-353-3366 x227, email jpitluk@vineyardtheatre.org or donate online here.
INDECENT, created by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel (Vineyard's HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE and THE LONG CHRISTMAS RIDE HOME) and award-winning director Rebecca Taichman (STAGE KISS), is a deeply moving new play with music, inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's GOD OF VENGEANCE - a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel. Indecent charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.
