VIOLET With Cole, Walter to Benefit BC/EFA's Classical Action

By:

Harriet Walter, 2009 Best Actress Tony® nominee for Mary Stuart and actor Guy Paul join harpsichordist, Maggie Cole, for VIOLET, a Dramatization in Words and Music of the Life of Violet Gordon Woodhouse, from the book by Jessica Douglas-Home. Violet's story is told in narration and letters, offset by music by Bach, Scarlatti, Couperin, Mozart, Rameau and Purcell.

Exotic, talented and the inspirer of devoted passion from both sexes, Violet Gordon Woodhouse (1872-1948) was one of the 20th century's most gifted musicians. She became the English "Landowska" in her passionate and compelling desire to understand and bring back to light the particular beauty of the harpsichord. Her salon was a magnet to many of the most important artists of her age - Picasso, Diaghilev, Rodin, T.E. Lawrence, Bartok, Wilfred Owen and Vaughan Williams. A fear of convention and a searching nature led her to share her life with four very different men.

This intimate dramatic reading and house concert will take place at an exclusive personal dwelling located in Tribeca.

Brunch begins at 12:00 PM, with a 1:00 PM performance.

Individual Tickets are $75 ($35 tax-deductible).

SPACE IS LIMITED. To purchase tickets for more information, please visit www.classicalaction.org or contact Classical Action at (212) 997-7717. A favor of a response is requested by February 17, 2010.

ABOUT Classical Action and BC/EFA
Classical Action, a fundraising program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, focuses on the idea of bringing the performing arts community into this cause of HIV/AIDS by presenting a variety of opportunities to offer their time and talent in support of people with AIDS and HIV around the country. In the 16 years since Classical Action opened its fundraising doors, we have raised more than $8 million. This response certainly bears out the concept, as witnessed by the inspiring generosity of so many lovers of the arts, performing artists, managers, recording companies, administrators, and other professionals in the performing arts field who care deeply about helping those who have been impacted by the AIDS epidemic.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation's leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised over $175 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.

BC/EFA is the major supporter of seven programs at The Actors' Fund - including The AIDS Initiative, The Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, The Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, The Dancers' Resource and three supportive housing residences. BC/EFA also awards annual grants to over 400 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.
