The Critically Acclaimed Immersive Production Of Irvine Welsh's TRAINSPOTTING Will Premiere Off-Broadway This Summer

Producers Brass Jar Productions (Drunk Shakespeare) and Olivier Award-winning producer, James Seabright announced today that the critically acclaimed, no-holds-barred production of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting Live will premiere Off-Broadway this summer direct from a world tour. Adapted by Harry Gibson, the production captures the passion and controversy of the generation-defining novel and globally successful film and repackages it into a full-throttled stage show where the audience is an integral part of the action, including the notorious "Worst Toilet in Scotland" scene.

Directed by King's Head Theatre Artistic Director, Adam Spreadbury-Maher in collaboration with Greg Esplin (who will also appear in the U.S. production), Trainspotting Live will open a custom-built immersive performance space at 777th 8th Avenue, also home to the long running hit, Drunk Shakespeare. Preview performances are set to begin on Thursday, July 5, 2018 with an opening night set for Sunday, July 15, 2018. The U.S. cast of Trainspotting will be announced soon. Trainspotting Live contains nudity, very strong language, violence, sexual material, and heavy drug / needle use. The production is only recommended for audience members age 16 and over.

The original production, which the Daily Telegraph called "a must see" and New Musical Express dubbed "a big fat hit," recently completed a world tour, is currently playing a sold-out run now through June 3, 2018 at The Vaults in London, and is set to play Edinburgh in August 2018. Welsh said of the all-new production, "I was shocked, and I wrote the f&*%ing thing!"

The 1996 British black comedy film, Trainspotting was directed by Danny Boyle, starred Ewan McGregor, and quickly achieved iconic status on both sides of the Atlantic. It was the highest-grossing British film of 1996 and, at the time, the fourth highest grossing film in British history.

Trainspotting was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and for two British Academy Film Awards, winning one for Best Adapted Screenplay. For his performance, Ewan McGregor was named Best Actor by the London Film Critics Circle, BAFTA Scotland Awards, and
