TerraNOVA Collective Returns W/ SUBTERRANEAN On 3/5

terraNOVA Collective returns March 5, 2009 at 10:00pm with SUBTERRANEAN, a new monthly party in the D-Lounge, a 75-seat cabaret-style venue below the Daryl Roth Theatre at 101 East 15th Street at Union Square. As the newest addition to terraNOVA's residency in the D•R•2 Theatre and D-Lounge, SUBTERRANEAN presents a variety of performers, including spoken word, music, burlesque, magic, storytelling, short play readings, vaudeville acts and DJs.

"This month's party is a true variety night," said SUBTERRANEAN curator James Carter. "We're always looking to mix it up at SUBTERRANEAN, and this time we're doing it with magic, comedy, performance art and burlesque. Top the night off with glam rock tunes, and it creates a perfect storm of frolicking fun!"

Among the varied artists performing are Jeff Grow (Monday Night Magic at 45 Bleeker, soloNOVA Arts Festival), comic and singer Jessica Delfino ("Opie & Anthony Show", Montreal Comedy Festival), performance artist, Zero Boy (NPR's Next Big Thing, Joe's Pub), Johnny Porkpie & Nasty Canasta (Pinchbottom Burlesque, Monday Night Burlesque at Public Assembly) and Little Brooklyn & Creamy Stevens (Starshine Burlesque), and DJ Joey Nova (Monday Night Burlesque, REBEL, REBEL).

Jeff Grow entertains guests with intimate sleight of hand miracles and presents stage magic for hundreds, and he delights guests in a presentation that transcends simply puzzling people. The rich simplicity and direct nature of Jeff's performance makes it accessible to a wide scope of audiences from Fortune 500 companies to up-and-coming arts festivals. Elegant sleight of hand and surreal mind reading mix together to explore the diverse facets of the art of illusion. Jeff has been featured in award winning films, and national and international commercials for Progressive Insurance, Computer Associates, Absolute Poker and others. He is a featured performer at New York City's top venues and events. Chrysler Corporation, Jive Records, Eileen Fisher, the National Football League and a plethora of private clients have all incorporated Jeff's outstanding magic into their principal events. He is a regular performer at Monday Night Magic, the longest running off-Broadway show of it's kind and his stage shows have been presented in venues through out New York City and Europe.

Jessica Delfino is a controversial singer, songwriter, and comedian. Her songs tend to ridicule taboos and typically include jokes about vaginas and other sexual or dark topics. In her act, she plays an assortment of instruments including guitar, flying V ukulele, and a rape whistle. She is also an illustrator and attended Philadelphia's Art Institute, as well as the University of Maine. She has won numerous awards, including beating out "Flight of the Conchords" to win the Best Musical Act at the 2005 ECNY awards, and a 2005 Village Voice "Best of" Award, in which the Village Voice declared her to be "fall-off-your-chair hilarious." She has appeared on "Good Morning America" as a finalist in a national comedy competition. She has also won many other competitions, some of them unusual, such as The Stoned Spelling Bee in Brooklyn, the Madagascar Institute's Catholic high school talent competition and the Arlene's Grocery "Gong Show," which later became "The Gong Show" with Dave Attell on Comedy Central.

Zero Boy is a performance artist, stand-up comic & "vocal acrobat" and recounts his zany adventures in Zeroland through a unique blend of sound and mime, the results being something akin to a performed comic book. From his New York base Zero Boy has written, directed & performed numerous productions on both coasts and Europe, working in traditional theater, stand up comedy, television, street performance festivals, radio, film, comic books, a national magazine, and on the cutting edge of digital media/art. Has been heard regularly on NPR's "The Next Big Thing" with Dean Olshar doing Stump Zero Boy and This Day in History with Zero Boy. Stump Zero Boy gave audience members a chance to commission a short-form radio cartoon. They email a 1-sentence scenario, involving as many strange and challenging elements as you can think and then Zero Boy creates live a vocal cartoon. Zero Boy has also co-produced with Ironica (Richard Reta) numerous theatrical events. "Trailer trash Slot car races!" An interactive event where the audience gets to Race HO scale cars while being entertained by The Ghost of Dale Earnheart and a cast of characters. Zero Boy has also celebrated as religious holidays, April Fools and Halloween by doing shows at The Bowery Poetry club. The shows, "The Great Debate" and "Flaw and Disorder" has featured a posse of fools including Karen Sneider, Master Lee, The Red Bastard, Chris Rozzi, Shecky Beagleman, Eric Kirchberger, Dziezce, Hal Robins and other guest fools. On "Fox and Friends" Zero Boy did a wacky version of the weather, and a spoof of the Brad and Jen split on "Good Day New York". In 2005 he also did a Monthly show called E-Z Tuesday's with the talented Ethan Lipton. With Guests, The Red Bastard, Airelise, Rachelle Garnier, and others. He has been heard regularly as a guest on The Joey Reynolds show. He has collaborated with cartoonist Ward Sutton at The Mother Jones Benefit at Town Hall during the Republican National convention. He has also done Dick Cheney numerous voices for Ward and Mark Sutton on Morey's Minute heard on Air America. Zero Boy has also hosted two Cannabis Cups in Amsterdam for High Times Magazine, as well as conducting & writing hemp-related interviews for them & working briefly as their foreign correspondent.

Nasty Canasta is the co-producer of Pinchbottom ("Best Burlesque in NYC" -NY Magazine, "Most Innovative" - Miss Exotic World Pageant) and the impresario behind Sweet & Nasty Burlesque. Little Brooklyn is sweet as an egg cream, thrilling as the Cyclone, and built like the Brooklyn Bridge. She is a mover and shaker in New York's burlesque scene. Not only can she be seen weekly at Starshine Burlesque which she co-produces with the fabulous Creamy Stevens, she also performs regularly at New York venues such as the Slipper Room, the Cutting Room, Galapagos and exotic shows including Sideshows by the Sea Shore at Coney Island, the New York Burlesque Festival, Tease-O-Rama, and Miss Exotic World - where she took home the title of first runner up in 2007. Proud recipient of not one... but a trio of highly coveted golden pasties from the New York Burlesque Festival. Her acts mix classic tease with a slapstick sense of humor that really puts the "Gee-whiz!" back in G-string! Little Brooklyn: a Coney Island RedHot!
Creamy Stevens hails from some decayed hamlet in Washington State, Creamy Stevens is the child of slaughterhouse workers. She learned she loved to entertain through making children cry at the juvenile detention center where she spent most of her teens. These days Creamy Stevens continues to hone her criminally insane mind at Starshine Burlesque, which she co-produces with the fabulous Little Brooklyn. She is a regular performer at the Slipper Room, Le Scandal, Sweet & Nasty Burlesque, Wasabassco Burlesque, and Coney Island Burlesque on the Beach. Creamy loves rhinestones and a good steak.
Joey Nova is a nightlife party promoter and DJ, whose fame stems largely from pioneering the return of glam rock to New York City, most notably with his weekly glam rock party, RebelRebel. Most of his parties and events are largely based in the Lower East Side and the East Village at venues such as Webster Hall, Lit, Don Hill's, and Beauty Bar. He's also worked at larger Meat-Packing District clubs such as Lotus, Hiro Ballroom, Stereo, and Marquee. He's hosted such famous parties as Glamdammit, Bowie Ball, and Rated X: The Panty Party. He works in the burlesque scene as the DJ of The NEW Monday Night Burlesque in Williamsburg, and almost always incorporates burlesque into his larger-scale events. He is also the manager of newly-signed Warner Bros recording artists Starbolt 9.
