The line between stand-up comedy and one-man show can be sometimes hard to find. Although Mike Birbiglia's new piece Sleepwalk With Me, presented by Nathan Lane, is as funny as the popular comedian's stand-up, it definitely deserves to be called a one-man show.

The main bulk of the work is concerned with Mr. Birbiglia's sleep disorders and what causes them. It makes for a fascinating ride, as he recounts his dreams and what they make him do; he keeps refusing to see doctors, sure that he can handle it, until his symptoms become too pronounced to ignore. He manages to negotiate some tricky material, while always keeping the tone light and free- and his hilarious tangents into everything from marriage to his Peter Rabbit to cellphones that should shoot bullets will certainly please fans of his stand-up material.

The direction by Seth Barrish keeps everything clear, as we go from nostalgia to fear to fighting imaginary flying jackals.

Birbiglia is an adorable and engaging storyteller who bares his awkward neuroses and fears for our entertainment. His work is on par with the work of the late Spalding Grey. ...if maybe a little funnier. I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next. Highly recommended.
