SOMEONE IN FLORIDA LOVES ME -- a new play by Jane Pickett about a reclusive young woman, her childhood friend, and a mysterious neighbor in a Brooklyn boarding house -- will be given its world-premiere production next month at the Paradise Factory Theater (64 East 4th Street) in Manhattan, with previews to begin June 6, prior to its official press opening on Sunday, June 14.
SOMEONE IN FLORIDA LOVE ME tells the story of Annie, a young woman in a Brooklyn boarding house who is struggling to shut out the ever-intrusive world. A shared bathroom connects Annie to an unknown man next door, a face she has never seen but whose presence invades her world. One cold winter night, things heat up between Annie and her strange neighbor, when Annie's childhood friend, a flight attendant named Nicole, arrives for an unexpected visit.

Lisa Louttit, Ana Perea and T.M. Bergman. Jane Pickett directs the production.
The production has scenic design by Adam Brustein, sound design by Peter Zuspan, lighting design by John Eckert, and costume design by Leah Piehl.
Jane Pickett's plays have been performed in New York at CSV, The Williamsburg Arts NEXUS, The Bushwick Starr, Tom Noonan's Paradise Factory, as well as The REDCAT NOW Festival and The Philadelphia and Edinburgh International Fringe Festivals. Jane received her MFA from California Institute of The Arts. CalArts produced her last play, THAT UNTRAVELLED WORLD, in 2008, directed by Phil Soltanoff.
Ms. Pickett's language, according to NYTheatre.com, "feels a little like
Sam Shepard and a little like
David Mamet and a lot like something entirely different." At the Edinburgh International Theater Festival in 2007, The Scotsman said she wrote "a remarkable play." And The Philadelphia Inquirer declared her writing as "remarkably moving."
For nearly 25 years, Guggenheim Fellow Tom Noonan has worked to advance the art of American theater and cinema through the education of emerging artists, and the production of their work at The Paradise Factory. Artists from
Ron Vawter to They Might Be Giants have performed at 64 East 4th Street, garnering film and theater awards as varied as the Bessie (for dance) to The National Endowment for the Arts, The Chicago International Film Festival's Silver Hugo and two Independent Spirit award nominations, as well as a Drama Desk nomination for
Jay DiPietro's PETER AND VANDY.
Christopher Walken refers to The Paradise Factory as "a mainstay of the independent movement in America."
Wallace Shawn calls Tom Noonan "one of the most brilliant and inspiring people working in the performing arts." And Charlie Kauffman, who recently directed Mr. Noonan in the film "Synecdoche, New York," says Tom's work is "alive and it's ever-shifting, a dream firmly rooted in ice-cold reality."
Jane Pickett has worked with Tom Noonan for nearly six years, assisting in him with several film and
Theater Productions. In talking about Jane's writing, Mr. Noonan refers to "a very specific drive and humor that infects all of her work, giving her a unique voice."
