ROMEO AND JULIET Plays Riverside Theatre 4/21-24

Columbia University, School of the Arts Theatre Arts Program presents William Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET. The show is directed by ADRIANA BAER and runs April 21-24, 2010. 

The Riverside Theatre is located at 91 Claremont Avenue between 120th and 122nd Streets. $15 General Admission and $5 for Seniors. The show is FREE with Columbia University ID or any other valid student ID, (Subject to availability)

Vibrant. Muscular. Raw. First love thwarted by a violent community blinded by ego and pride. A fated young couple fight for what they know is right. Visceral physicality and urgent, energetic use of language are brought to the forefront in this passionate production of Shakespeare's most popular love story.

The creative team includes Adriana Baer (Director), Stephen Dobay (Scenic Designer), Paul Toben (Lighting Designer), Kevin Thacker (Costume Designer), Brandon Wolcott and Matthew Walsh (Sound and Music Designers), Adrienne Giffen (Hair and Makeup Designer), Casey Robinson (Fight and Movement Choreographer), Phil Gates (Assistant Director), Emily Madison (Dramaturg), Jill Bernard (General Manager), Alona Fogel (Company Manager), D Westerholm (Production Stage Manager), Brian Bené (Assistant Set and Props Designer), and Steven Rowe and Michelle Cote (Assistant Stage Managers).

Adriana Baer's directing credits include Woyzeck (Bay Area Critics Circle Award for Best Direction), The Maids, and No Exit at The Cutting Ball Theater (San Francisco) where she was the Associate Artistic Director during the 2004-2007 seasons. During her tenure at The Cutting Ball, the company received four "Best of San Francisco" awards, including one for No Exit. Other directing credits include A Streetcar Named Desire, The Seagull, The Hairy Ape, Miss Julie, Girls in Uniform and a number of new play premieres.

She has worked with The Public Theater, Theater Communications Group, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, S.F. Circus Center/Pickle Circus, and Bay Area Playwrights Foundation. As an Assistant Director, Adriana has worked at American Conservatory Theater (with Mark Lamos), Oregon Shakespeare Festival (with Libby Appel), California Shakespeare Theater (with Sharon Ott), and with RoBert Woodruff on Opera Boston's world premiere of Madame White Snake. This October, she will travel with the opera to the Beijing International Music Festival.

Columbia Stages is the producing arm of the Oscar Hammerstein II Center for Theatre Studies of Columbia University's School of the Arts. Columbia Stages presents a season of graduate actor and director productions as well as an annual festival of new plays by emerging playwrights. The theatre program offers M.F.A. degrees in acting, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, stage management, and theatre management and producing.
