Primary Stages has announced the schedule of new plays for its 24th season.  The 2008-2009 season will have three New York premieres: Buffalo Gal by A.R. Gurney, A Body of Water by Lee Blessing, and Shipwrecked! An Entertainment  - The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told By Himself) by Donald Margulies, and the world premiere of Chasing Manet by Tina Howe at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street).

Opening the 2008-2009 Season is Buffalo Gal by award-winning playwright A.R. Gurney who returns to Primary Stages with a comedy that "centers around Amanda, a once successful television personality whose star is now fading.  Life imitates art as she returns to her hometown of Buffalo to star in Chekov's The Cherry Orchard.  Just as she is connecting with her roots - both on stage and off - she is called back to Hollywood for a role that could recharge her career.  Will the love of theater be enough to keep her in Buffalo?" ask press notes.  Mark Lamos returns to Primary Stages to direct the New York premiere.   Performances begin July 22, 2008 and continue through August 30, 2008.

"The New York premiere of A Body of Water by Lee Blessing tells the story of Avis and Moss who awake one morning in a house set in the forested hills above a picturesque body of water.  The weather's great, the view's magnificent.  However, neither of them seems to know whose house this is or who they are.   Will a stranger at their doorstep be able to help?  A Body of Water is a haunting new drama that explores the slippery nature of reality and conviction," describe press notes.Maria Mileafreturns to Primary Stages to direct. Performance dates are September 16, 2008 through October 25, 2008.

The second half of the 24th season kicks off with Shipwrecked! An Entertainment  - The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told By Himself) by Donald Margulies. "A Tale of adventure that left England spellbound in the 19th century is the center of attention in Donald Margulies' play. Louis de Rougemont invites you to hear his amazing story of bravery, survival and celebrity.  Shipwrecked! examines how far we're willing to blur the line between fact and fiction in order to leave our mark on the world," state press notes. Performances are January 27, 2009 through March 7, 2009.

The final production of the 2008-2009 Season is the world premiere of the new comedy Chasing Manet by Tina Howe, "in which a rebellious painter from a distinguished family in Boston and an ebullient Jewish woman with a huge adoring family form an unlikely bond.  Inside the confining walls of Mount Airy Nursing Home, the two plot an escape to Paris aboard the QE2.  But can they possibly pull it off amidst the chaos of their surroundings?  The tension and comedy grow as they struggle to take wing for the last time," press notes say. The cast will feature Tony Award-winner Jane Alexander.   Performances are scheduled to begin March 25, 2009, continuing through May 2, 2009.
