Post-Show Talkbacks Announced For MEG'S MEW FRIEND
The Production Company will host three stimulating post-show talkbacks after Meg's New Friend, Blair Singer's timely play about relationships in the age of President Obama.
Meg, a New York City TV features reporter, realizes she doesn't have one African-American friend. When she meets her best friend's new boyfriend, African-American yoga instructor Ty, she thinks she's found just what she's looking for.
The upcoming talkbacks include:
THE FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE
Monday, December 7th
after 8:00 pm performance
Felice Belle (Former Curator and Host, Friday Night Slam series at Nuyorican Poets Café), Courtney E. Martin (Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters: How the Quest for Perfection is Harming Young Women) and Tammy Oler (Bitch Magazine) will offer reactions to the play as well as a spirited and entertaining debate about the nexus of race and gender.
DESIGNING WOMEN
Thursday, December 10th
After 8:00 pm performance
In celebration of the 50/50 in 2020 movement, Meg's New Friends female designers - April Bartlett (scenic), Deanna Frieman (costume) and Carolyn Wong (lighting) - will speak about their experiences in creating the world of the play and answer questions about their work.
CONVERSATION WITH THE CAST
Monday, December 14th
After 8:00 pm performance
The critically acclaimed cast of Meg's New Friend - Mary Cross, Damon Gupton, Megan McQuillan and Michael Solomon - will discuss their experiences creating a modern comedy. Back Stage commended the cast for creating "convincing contemporary characters" while the New York Press raved, "Director Mark Armstrong has conquered MTS's awkward playing space and elicited strong performances from his quartet of actors."
Performances of Meg's New Friend continue through December 20th, Monday, Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm at Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal St., between Waverly Place and West 8th St.). Tickets are $25 at http://www.theatermania.com or (212) 352-3101. The talkbacks are free to ticketholders for each performance.
