Photo Flash: Resonance Ensemble Celebrates Opening of CYRANO DE BERGERAC and BURNING
Celebrating classic plays and the new works they inspire, Resonance Ensemble is proud to open its 11th season this weekend at the Theatre at St. Clements, with CYRANO DE BERGERAC and the world premiere of BURNING in rep. The productions officially opened on Sunday, February 7, and Monday, February 8, and BroadwayWorld has photos from the festivities below!
CYRANO DE BERGERAC by Edmond Rostand, adapted by Gabriel Barre, Rick Sordelet and Alexander Sovronsky, is the most popular French play ever produced and has inspired countless productions and films throughout the world. In this new adaptation, the rich and romantic tale is brought to life by an intimate cast of eight actor/musicians and features direction by Gabriel Barre (who also appears in the title role), action direction by Rick Sordelet and an original musical score by Alexander Sovronsky. The show promises to be fun filled and fast paced, with audience interactive staging making full use of the expansive and unique space at the Theatre at St. Clements.
The CYRANO DE BERGERAC cast includes: Tony Nominee Gabriel Barre (Starmites) to star as Cyrano who will be joined by Bridget Saracino (Mother of the Maid) as Roxanne, Luke Darnell (Million Dollar Quartet) as Christian; with Rin Allen (Regional: The Three Musketeers, Chicago), Joe Jung (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Mark Peters (Resonance's RINO), Alexander Sovronsky (Broadway: Cyrano), and Louis Tucci (The Buddy Holly Story).
In BURNING by Ginger Lazarus, directed by Eric Parness, Cyrano has become Cy, a woman kicked out of the Army for being gay, who, like Cyrano, suffers from insecurity that prevents her from pursuing love. She now takes on the world with her words, blogging from her country store in a remote Western town near the base where she last served. The play is not only a fresh take on the Cyrano story, it tackles critical contemporary issues of gender inequality, discrimination based on sexual orientation, and military abuse. In love and war, words unspoken are the words that burn.
The BURNING cast is led by award-winning actress Catherine Curtin ("Orange is the New Black," Film: The Wolf of Wall Street. NYC: The Lady from Dubuque), Chris Ceraso (Resonance's Master Builder), Zachary Clarence (Film: Catch 22), Shaun Bennet Fauntleroy (Resonance's The Truth Quotient), and Sean Phillips (Regional: Othello).
