NSMT’s Evans Haile Comes To York in October

The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) has announced tickets are now on sale for A Salon Soiree with Evans Haile. The event is billed as "elegant, irreverent evening of music, stories and humor with host and pianist, Evans Haile."

"You're invited to partake in a Musical Party with such guests as George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, the fiery Ernesto Lecuona, American adventurer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and Johann Strauss (the "Waltz King"), among others. In the course of the event, you'll meet these fascinating people--all of whom have something to say, and do so through music. Your pianist and host, raconteur Evans Haile, will spin stories and observations that you will find both
compelling and funny. He brings a delightfully skewed sense of humor and observational skills to the proceedings."

Performances will take place Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 3 PM and Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 7 PM. Tickets are priced at $35 and are available via phone at 212-935-5820 or online at www.yorktheatre.org.

Evans Haile is the Artistic Director of the Cape Playhouse, America's Oldest Professional Summer Theatre, and most recently became the Producing Artistic Director of the North Shore Music Theatre. He has toured the world as a Guest Conductor in Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic), Europe (Orchestra of the Deutsche Opera), Asia, Australia, and has been a regular guest with the Boston Pops.

The York Theatre Company is the only theater in New York City - and one of very few in the world - dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past. Over the past two seasons, York productions have been nominated for 25 Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards (and its productions of Yank! A WWII Love Story and Enter Laughing, The Musical have both been announced for Broadway transfers). For over four decades, York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and neglected classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. Under the guidance of Artistic Director James Morgan since 1997, the York has focused exclusively on new musicals in its Mainstage Series-most of them world, American, or New York premieres-by some of the field's most esteemed creators, and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers. Over 30 cast recordings from York Theatre Company productions are now available on CD, and commercial transfers of such York productions as The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), Souvenir, Jolson & Company, and acclaimed revivals of Sweeney Todd and Pacific Overtures have all showcased the importance of the York and its programs.
