Jake Ehrenreich's A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN to Return Tonight, 5/2 - Directed by John Huberth

By:

A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN, Jake Ehrenreich's acclaimed comedy and musical memoir, returns to Off-Broadway tonight, May 2nd at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Theater (120 West 46th Street) following a highly successful North American Tour. John Huberth directs the show.

A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN is the story of a baby boomer, the son of survivors who grew up in 1960's Brooklyn and wanted nothing more than to be American. Along the way, Ehrenreich, backed by a trio of musician/singers, performs the popular music of both his and his parent's generations, and demonstrates, from adolescence in Brooklyn, to the classic Catskills, how survivors learn to laugh again. With the help of a visual multi-media set, he weaves philosophy into personal history as he recreates his journey from denial to acceptance to rebirth.

After over 2,000 performances, including 18 months Off Broadway and a National Tour of over 25 cities, the show has spawned a full-length book version, A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN: The Curious Reflections of a First Generation American. Published by Health Communications Inc. (the company made famous by the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books), Ehrenreich has adapted his stage show into a compilation of essays that Publisher's Weekly calls "Inspirational and entertaining throughout."

Jake Ehrenreich (Performer/Creator) has appeared on Broadway in Dancin, Barnum and They're Playing Our Song and touredinternationally as Ringo in Beatlemania. Off-Broadway performances include the title role for Joseph Papp in Jonah, at The Public Theater, Songs of Paradise and The Golden Land. Jake has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and was a bandleader at the Rainbow Room in NYC. He has toured and recorded and with such diverse artists as Richie Havens, Greg Allman, Tito Puente, Cab Calloway and the Smothers Brothers. Jacob Issac Enrenreich, named for his grandfathers lost in the Holocaust, was born in Brooklyn, NY as a first generation American. His parents and two sisters arrived in the US in 1949 and this show is dedicated to all of them.

After its sold-out world premiere engagement Off-Broadway in April of 2006. A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN moved to The Lamb's Theatre where it broke house records before the fabled venue's imminent shuttering forced it to leave and transfer to the 37 Arts Theatre in October of 2007.

Performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 5PM, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2PM. Tickets are $59-$79, with premium seating at $95. To purchase tickets, please visit www.ajewgrowsinbrooklyn.com or call (866) 811-4111.
