Two of the most popular public radio series distributed by PRI-This American Life and Selected Shorts-join forces for an evening of surprising stories by contributors to the hit series from Chicago Public Radio on May 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Selected Shorts' Stories by Writers from This American Life will feature Ira Glass, host of This American Life, alongside Selected Shorts host and Symphony Space Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer for the first time. Glass and Sheffer are two public radio icons whose approach to finding the best in literary works and human expression share a common spirit. The two programs are known nationwide for offering smart, literate and often irreverent takes on a diverse array of topics.

Performers for the event include comedian Mike Birbiglia (Sleepwalk with Me) and Elna Baker (The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance), who will perform their own stories. This special Selected Shorts evening is part of New York Book Week, which embraces all literary and book activity during the week of Sunday, May 23 through Saturday, May 29 bringing attention to authors and their books throughout New York City and its boroughs. Tickets are $27, $25 for members.

Since opening in 1978 with a 12-hour marathon concert called Wall to Wall Bach, Symphony Space has earned its place as an innovative, multi-disciplinary cultural center in the heart of New York City's acclaimed Upper West Side neighborhood. In its two performance spaces, diverse programs bring great actors, musicians, writers, and dancers together with the public in a unique melding of world-class artistry in an informal and intimate setting.
