I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF Returns to York Theatre Company, Beginning Today

By:

By popular demand, York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Andrew Levine, Executive Director) has announced the return engagement of the new musical I'm a Stranger Here Myself, written and performed by Mark Nadler, with Franca Vercelloni on accordion, Jessica Tyler Wright on vioin and directed by David Schweizer.

Performances will resume on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. and continue through Sunday afternoon, June 9 at 2:30 p.m. atThe York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The heart, soul and tears of the music that helped define Broadway in its golden age was inextricably linked to a magical -- and sinister -- several years in pre-WWII Berlin. It was a brief period when the creative strangers of the society -- poets, playwrights, Jews, gays and artists of all sorts -- were embraced and even exalted. And it's this smart, sexy, jazz-fueled, booze-soaked era that the astonishing, multi-award winning entertainer Mark Nadler brings to life in I'm a Stranger Here Myself -- the deeply emotional undercurrents of a society about to break itself into a million pieces

It's an epic story, and at the same time a poignantly personal one, as directed by the gifted David Schweizer. The songs of Kurt Weill, Lotte Lenya, Freidrich Hollaender, Marlene Dietrich-among others-express the declarations of identity, the resistance in the face of terror, and the hopes for survival. One night with Nadler and you'll never think of the Weimar in the same way again...and stories from "the old country" will suddenly burst to life as the headiest, hippest, most sweltering time in recent history.

The creative team includes James Morgan (Set Design), Mary Jo Dondlinger (Lighting Design), Kimothy Cruse (Production Stage Manager) and Meg Friedman (Assistant Stage Manager).

I'm a Stranger Here Myself will play the following performance schedule: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday through Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets, now sale, are priced at $67.50 and are available online at www.yorktheatre.org, by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the box office at the York Theatre at Saint Peter's (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue), Monday throughFriday (12:00 -6:00 p.m.).
