THIS SIDE OF PARADISE, songwriter Nancy Harrow's new musical about the relationship of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, will premiere at St. Clement's Theatre Off-Broadway from April 14 - May 9.
Music and lyrics for the show are by Harrow, who co-wrote the book with Will Pomerantz. Pomerantz is also the director and in charge of musical staging. The show tells the story of Zelda and Scott, who reflected all of the success, glamour and excess of 1920s America. Such a lifesyle would leave Zelda in a mental institution, ultimately. This Side of Paradise takes a look into the lives and loves of the Fitzgeralds, from their first meeting in 1918 in Montgomery, AL, until Scott's death in Hollywood in 1940. The musical centers on Zelda, looking into her past during sessions with a young doctor, searching to find the true meaning of her life with Scott, one of America's most accomplished writers. Harrow, best known for THE ADVENTURES OF MAYA THE BEE which ran in New York City for seven years and in Japan for two, has been interested in the Fitzgeralds for some time. In 2003, she released the album "Winter Dreams: The Life & Passions of F. Scott Fitzgerald." Opening night of THIS SIDE OF PARADISE is April 12. The show's cast includes Maureen Mueller (Zelda), Rachel Moulton (Young Zelda), Michael Shawn Lewis (F. Scott), Clarke Carmichael (Ernest Hemingway), Mandy Bruno (Scottie, the daughter of Zelda and Scott), Jamie LaVerdiere (Callaghan) and Michael Sharon (The Doctor). The show's design team features set designer Troy Hourie, costume designer Devon Painter and lighting designer Cory Pattak. The Theatre St. Clements is at 423 W. 46th Street. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased by visiting www.paradisethemusical.com or by calling (212) 352-0255.
