Comedian Mike Birbiglia Headed Off-Broadway

By:

Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes, (www.ThankGodForJokes.com) a new comedy written and performed by Mike Birbiglia, will play Lynn Redgrave Theater, (45 Bleecker Street at the corner of Lafayette Street) beginning February 2nd with the official opening scheduled for February 11th.

Mike Birbiglia declares that a joke should never end with 'I'm joking.' In his all-new comedy, Birbiglia tiptoes hilariously through the minefield that is modern-day joke-telling. Join Mike as he learns that the same jokes that elicit laughter have the power to produce tears, rage, and a whole lot of getting yelled at. Ultimately it's a show that asks, "How far should we go for the laugh?"

Directed by Seth Barrish (My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, Sleepwalk With Me, The Tricky Part), Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes will have a set design by Beowulf Boritt (Sleepwalk With Me, On The Town, Act One for which he won the Tony® Award).

Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes marks Mike Birbiglia's return to the New York stage after his acclaimed off-Broadway engagements of My Girlfriend's Boyfriend (Lucille Lortel Award for Best Solo Show, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Solo Show) and Sleepwalk With Me (Nightlife Award for Outstanding Comedian In A Major Performance, Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Award nominations). That play was the basis for Mike's New York Times Best Selling memoir Sleepwalk With Me (Simon and Schuster).

"I'm so excited to be returning to the Lynn Redgrave Theater, where I performed Sleepwalk, my first play eight years ago," said Mike Birbiglia. "It's going to be a really special six weeks. I'll see you there, or awkwardly on the F train right before it."

Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes is produced by Mike Berkowitz, Joseph Birbiglia, Ron Delsener, and Mike Lavoie.

Tickets for Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes range from $55 (previews) and $65 (after February 11) with premium seating available.
