New musical LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES by Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman to be performed for one-night-only at Cherry Lane Theatre in NYC Monday, October 19 at 7 p.m.

The Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Manhattan) will present a one-night-only benefit performance of the new musical LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES by Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman (creators of the Tony-nominated musical IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT THE BLUES) on Monday, October 19 at 7 p.m. The October 19th reading will benefit Cherry Lane Theatre's programs for playwriting.

Directed by BJ Jones (THE LADY WITH ALL THE ANSWERS starring Judith Ivey), LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES will have its world premiere in May 2010 at Northlight Theatre in Illinois, where Mr. Jones is artistic director.

LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES features songs -- rife with innuendo, if not blatantly sexual -- made famous, or infamous, as it were, by such inimitable entertainers as Mae West, Muddy Waters, Ma Rainey, Sophie Tucket, Howlin' Wolf, Pearl Bailey and many others. The musical is a rousing depiction of the passion, soul and love of life depicted in these songs that have been part of our musical culture since the birth of the blues.

Featured in the cast of the October 19th performance of LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES are Sandra Reaves-Phillips, Deborah Blackwell-Cook, Gregory Porter, Mississippi Charles Beel and Terrence Riggins.

In addition to having created IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT THE BLUES, Randal Myler created the long-running Off-Broadway musical LOVE JANIS, and Dan Wheetman was a creator of the musical CIDER HOUSE RULES.

Tickets to LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES are $30 and can be purchased at the box office, or by phone: 212 989 2020.

Cherry Lane Theatre opened its 2009-10 season on Oct. 14th with the New York premiere of David Rambo's play THE LADY WITH ALL THE ANSWERS starring Judith Ivey, running through November 29. Also in October, Cherry Lane Theatre launched its new solo performance series, SOLO FEST! AT THE PIT, featuring women writers and performers presenting their own solo works every Monday night through Nov. 23 at the Cherry Pit theatre (155 Bank St.) in the West Village.

Angelina Fiordellisi is Artistic Director of the Cherry Lane Theatre; James King is Managing Director.
