Retro Productions is proud to announce casting and creative team for their production of The Desk Set. Directed by Tim Errickson (Artistic Director, Boomerang Theatre Company), William Marchant's 1950's office comedy returns to New York City May 7 - 22, 2010.
 
Meet The Desk Set: Bunny Watson, head librarian of the reference department at the Federal Broadcasting Company, and her team of librarians. Besides being equipped with an encyclopedic knowledge and whip-smart wit, these hilarious working girls know how to have a good time while getting the job done in 1950’s Manhattan. But when an efficiency expert installs a new electronic brain into the office and rumors of pink slips fill the air, Bunny and the girls fear they may have met their match.

The Desk Set's cast is lead by Kristen Vaughan (Mill Fire - NYITA nomination, Clothes for a Summer Hotel, White Horse) as Bunny Watson and Matthew Trumbull* (nytheatre.com 'People of the Year' 2009; Viral, Soho Playhouse; Glee Club, Blue Coyote) as Richard Sumner, the efficiency expert responsible for the electronic brain. The Desk Set features: Heather E. Cunningham (Holy Days, Still Life, Retro); Douglas B. Giorgis* (Boomerang Theatre Company), Stuart Green (The War at Home, The Barrow Group), Anne Shapland Kearns (Steppenwolf Theatre Company), Ric Sechrest* (The Tender Trap, Retro) Alisha Spielmann (Bus Stop, The Gallery Players), Matilda Szydagis* (The Nanny Diaries, The Sopranos) and Aubrie Therrien (What I did Last Summer, Retro). *Performing courtesy of Actor's Equity Association??

Tim Errickson directs, teaming up with Retro Productions' acclaimed production team: Jeanne Travis* is stage manager and sound designer, set design is by Rebecca Cunningham, costume design is by Viviane Galloway, lighting and computer design is by Justin Sturges, properties design is by Heather E. Cunningham and Casandera M. J. Lollar. The choreographer is Mark D. Lingenfelter. The assistant set designer is Jack Cunningham, the assistant stage manager is Jenny Kennedy, and the assistant costume designer is Kathryn Squitieri. ??

The Desk Set returns to midtown Friday, May 7th at 8 pm and runs Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8p.m. and Sundays at 3p.m. through May 22nd. Running in repertory will be a Retro Productions world premiere: Women and War by Jack Hilton Cunningham, May 11 - 22nd. All performances take place at the Spoon Theater, located at 38 West 38th Street on the 5th Floor, New York, NY 10018. The Spoon Theater is air conditioned and fully handicapped accessible. Take the 7, B, D, F or V to 5th Ave/Bryant Park, or the B, D, F, V, N, R, W, Q to Herald Square. Lot parking available nearby.??

Tickets to The Desk Set are $18 and $15 for seniors with valid ID. There is a $5 student rush with valid ID, based on availability. 2010 repertory passes to Women and War and The Desk Set are available for $31 and $24 for seniors with valid ID (fees included in price; valid for Women and War's Saturday matinees).  There is a special Mother's Day matinee to The Desk Set: Sunday, May 9th at 3 pm.  Use code RETROMOM to Buy 3 tickets for the price of 2, and Mom is honored with a corsage at the theater. Retro Productions put themselves on the map in their third season producing Sally Nemeth's Mill Fire and What I Did Last Summer, called "...first-rate: brisk, sweet and occasionally quite moving," by playwright A.R. Gurney. This, their first season in residence at The Spoon Theater, garnered six 2008 New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations: two for performance and four for design, a New York Magazine ‘Off-off Broadway pick’ and the growing reputation of ‘the finished effect of a Retro Production’ (The Fab Marquee, Mill Fire). Retro’s fourth season included The Tender Trap, called "a powerful display of New York's dramatic talent," (offoffonline) and the celebrated revival of When You Comin’ Back Red Ryder?. Retro Productions started their fifth season with Sally Nemeth's Holy Days, Directed by Peter Zinn, nytheatre.com exclaimed, "Retro Productions is a force of nature...[Holy Days] is everything that is great about American theatre."??
