Bedlam Will Launch 2017 Season with Stephan Wolfert's CRY HAVOC!

BEDLAM (Eric Tucker, Artistic Director; Kimberly Pau Boston, Managing Director) follows up its award-winning, critically-acclaimed, sold-out production of SENSE & SENSIBILITY with CRY HAVOC!, written and performed by Stephan Wolfert and directed by Eric Tucker, at New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street) for a limited 6 week engagement from Wednesday, March 15, 2017, through Sunday, April 23, 2017. CRY HAVOC! opens Sunday, March 19, 2017.

After six years in the army, Stephan Wolfert hopped off the Amtrak deep in the mountains of Montana and found himself at a performance of RICHARD III that would change his life forever. In this heartrending two act, one man show, Wolfert examines his own experience pre- and post-service, in the lines of some of Shakespeare's most famous speeches. Through his own personal insights as he explores our societal neurosis of war, and questions, is there room for improvement in the way in which we reintegrate our Vets back into society? The military recruits citizens and trains them to kill, but what does the "de-cruit" process look like? How do we re-learn to live together? CRY HAVOC! premiered May 1, 2015, as part of MAN: SOLO, BEDLAM's festival of One Act Plays. Stephan Wolfert has gone on to perform CRY HAVOC! across the country and in Rome, Italy, to critical acclaim, winning three Berkshire Theatre Awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor, and Outstanding Direction of a Play.

CRY HAVOC! was developed in conjunction with BEDLAM's Veteran Outreach program. BEDLAM offers a free ongoing acting class for Veterans on Monday evenings from 6pm - 9pm at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street). Dedicated to the exploration of William Shakespeare's plays, Veterans are welcome to bring in material of their choice to work on for auditions and performances. Participants are also invited to perform in showcase presentations, and share their work at an ongoing reading series. The class is taught by Stephan Wolfert, Director of Veteran Outreach and BEDLAM Company member, last seen as Sir John Middleton and the horse in BEDLAM's hit production of SENSE & SENSIBILITY. Stephan Wolfert. AEA/SAG member; U.S. Army Veteran. Stephan left a career in the military for a life in the theatre after seeing Shakespeare's Richard III. Stephan received his MFA from Trinity Rep Conservatory, created the military segments for the Tony Award-winning Broadway production MOVIN' OUT, is Director of Veteran Outreach for BEDLAM, and was recently in BEDLAM'S HAMLET, SAINT JOAN, and his one-man show CRY HAVOC!.

The playing schedule for CRY HAVOC! is as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday at 7pm, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.

BEDLAM's past critically acclaimed productions are enjoying runs across the country. Houston's Stark Naked Theatre Company presented the BEDLAM production of SAINT JOAN, directed by Eric Tucker from June 3 through June 18, 2016. The production was named Best Visiting Production at the Houston Theater Awards. BEDLAM returned to Boston's Central Square Theater following last season's SAINT JOAN, with director Eric Tucker's TWELFTH NIGHT and What You Will, one play, two completely different ways, with the same five actors from the original New York production, which ran from June 9 through July 10, 2016. The McCarter Theater Center in Princeton, NJ has announced they will be presenting BEDLAM's HAMLET and SAINT JOAN in repertory from January 13, 2017 through February 12, 2017. BEDLAM just concluded an 11 month Off-Broadway run of their award-winning, critically acclaimed SENSE & SENSIBILITY at The Gym at Judson.
