BETTER LUCKY THAN SMART Plays The Studio Theatre, Opens 11/2

Teatro oscuro and Trumpet Fiction Productions presents a reading of Jonathan Kravetz's whip smart comedy Better Lucky Than Smart Monday, November 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Theatre Row's Studio Theatre (410 West 42nd St.).

Directed by Joseph Beuerlein, Better Lucky Than Smart stars Anne Bobby (White Liars & Black Comedy, All the Rage), Joseph Callari (George and Bill Are Friends, Emerging Artists Theatre), Sarah Doudna (A Body Without A Head), Jay Leibowitz (The Grapes of Wrath, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey) and Synge Maher (Thoroughly Stupid Things).

Not-so-bright family man Henry is a schemer. He tries to pass old violins off as Stradivarii, but when his next buyers turn out to be the FBI, a topsy-turvy kidnapping plot unfolds, involving a million dollars in ransom money, a dim-bulb President, the president's femme-fatale mistress, a loopy First-Lady, not-so-slick gangsters and Henry's own twelve-year old son Tyler, who just might have the smarts and moxy that his father imagines for himself. Only Henry's wife, Jane, by revisiting her secret past, can save Tyler from the gangsters, Henry from himself, and possibly redeem the whole family in the process. Better Lucky Than Smart is an uproarious new comedy by Jonathan Kravetz, author of the critically acclaimed play Prayer (FringeNYC 2008).

Jonathan Kravetz's speculative drama, about a theocratic society run amok, Prayer, received universal praise ("Prayer is one of the finds of the Fringe Festival." - OffOffOff.com). His short play, Violins, was one of five winners of the Bite Size International Playwriting competition and was performed at the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2008. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the acclaimed literary web magazine, DUCTS.ORG (1999).
