Alison Fraser and Robert Cuccioli to Headline FAREWELL TO THEATRE and INTERLUDE AT THE PLAYHOUSE

Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw, under the leadership of Artistic Director David Staller, continues its 11th Season when it presents its 116th concert presentation with a double bill featuring Harley Granville-Barker's Farewell to the Theatre and George Bernard Shaw's Interlude at The Playhouse on Monday, September 19 at 7pm, at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre (2537 Broadway at 95th Street).

As Project Shaw continues to branch out to include playwrights who were instrumental in the formation of 'Shaw the Playwright', we bring you Farewell to the Theatre, a short play by one of Shaw's muses and one of the most important men of the theatre in the 20th century, Harley Granville-Barker. This rarely seen gem, written in 1916, takes a loving look at the theatre, the choices we make, the dreams that obsess us, and the importance of moving on in life against all odds. An evening double bill with Farewell to the Theatre is Interlude at The Playhouse by Bernard Shaw, written in 1907. It's opening night at a grand new playhouse in London. The theatre manager/star of the evening is scheduled to make a speech but he's simply not up to it. Luckily, his put-upon wife is there to coax the audience in the right mood and save the day. Farewell to Theatre features Alison Fraser and Robert Cuccioli. Interlude at The Playhouse also features Ms. Fraser and Mr. Cuccioli with a special surprise guest star.

According to Staller, "Harley Granville-Barker was a major force in the theatre in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Much of our modern approach to Shakespeare we can credit to him. Shaw was greatly inspired by his charm, wit, and scholarly insights, writing several of his most important male roles for him to introduce. These two plays could not be more different in their look at our mad world of the Theatre and, with these two actors in charge, we expect fireworks!"

Now celebrating its 11th year, Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw made history in December 2009 as the first company ever to present performances of every one of Shaw's 65 plays (including full-length works, one-acts and sketches). They are now also including plays by writers who most inspired Shaw to begin his playwriting career, including work by Chekhov, Ibsen, Wilde, Barrie and Harley Granville-Barker.

The 2016 Project Shaw Season continues with On The Rocks (October 24), J.M. Barrie'sAlice Sit-By-The-Fire (November 21), and Androcles and the Lion (December 19).For those interested in lively off-site discourses, each Project Shaw event is followed by a talk-back with cast members. GTG's David Staller is also hosting a monthly Shaw Club discussion group. They meet the Wednesday before every Project Shaw event at 520 8th Avenue.
