Algonquin Theater Productions will present the New York premiere of Mike Folie's drama Slave Shack, the second production in Algonquin's 2009 Intimate Theater season, directed by Debra Whitfield.

The Algonquin, currently rotating two Off-Broadway hit musicals in its Kaufman Theater (Sessions and An Evening at the Carlyle), is offering a trio of nonmusical plays in its more intimate Parker Theater. In addition to Slave Shack, running October 15 through November 1, Algonquin presented Tony Sportiello's LOL and will present Rick Eisenberg's The Arrangement in November.

Slave Shack is a provocative tale of betrayal, loss and revenge set against the backdrop of global corporate power. Senior Executive Jack Blake has fought his way to the top of a worldwide corporation only to see his career destroyed by a racially insensitive act. On the eve of his retirement party, African-American speech writer Janice Churchill arrives to put the finishing touches on his farewell remarks. Instead, she finds herself caught up in an emotionally and racially charged confrontation that will leave audiences guessing until the very end about who is the true aggressor and who the real victim.

Playwright Mike Folie is the author of several award-winning plays that have been produced often in the U.S. and internationally, including The Adjustment, Panama, Naked by the River, Lemonade and Love in the Insecurity Zone. In 2007 Dramatists Guild Magazine included him in their list of "50 Playwrights to Watch."

DEBRA WHITFIELD (Director) helmed the award-winning Off-Broadway production of Trifles at Looking Glass Theatre (Beaux Arts Da Vinci Award for Best Revival in New York), Certain Souls for Algonquin Productions, and the world premiere of The Mission by Steven Fechter. Regional credits include In the Belly of the Beast (Florida Studio Theatre -- Best Play of 2008 Sarasota Magazine), The Memory of Water, To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday (The Depot Theatre), Brighton Beach Memoirs (Emelin Theatre) and A Murder Is Announced (The Dorset Theatre Festival).

Slave Shack will feature actors Michael Gnat, Candice LaGia Lenoir, Jeffrey Plunkett and Lizzie Folie.

Natalie Taylor Hart is designing the set, Deborah Constantine the lights and Joel Mofsenson the sound. The props master is Eric Hart. The fight director for Slave Shack is Rod Kinter with Adam Alexander as assistant fight director. Graphic design is being provided by Piotr Zmuda of the Zmuda Group. Elizabeth Salisch will serve as Stage Manager.
