Additional Performance Added to DINA MARTINA: SITTING OVATIONS At Beechman 9/26

By: Sep. 02, 2010

After selling out its initial performances in June, two encore performances in September and adding a 3rd performance, a fourth (and final) performance has been added to DINA MARTINA: SITTING OVATIONS at The Laurie Beechman Theater on Sunday, September 26 at 9:30pm. Attaining cult status in her native town of Seattle and touring nationally, Martina's official New York debut in 2005 sold out in minutes. Her follow-up shows have left jaded audiences (including the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, S. Epatha Merkerson, John Cameron Mitchell, Margaret Cho, Rue McClanahan, Bruce Vilanch, Joyce Dewitt, and Jeff Stryker -- a list as strange has her shows) stunned and clamoring for more.

DINA MARTINA: SITTING OVATIONS, like all of Martina's surreal shows, is a nearly indescribable night of unique entertainment that assaults the senses like no other show. It promises to be a delightful blend of unequaled song, unnecessary dance, unattractive costumes, and unbelievable video. Perhaps the best description of Dina comes from a glowing review in Seattle's noted alternative weekly The Stranger: "Her voice sounds like a cat having an epileptic fit on a chalkboard, her body moves like two pigs fighting their way out of a sleeping bag, and her face looks like the collision of a Maybelline truck with a Shoney's buffet. But Dina redefines what it means to be a star."

DINA MARTINA was conceived in 1989 by Seattle-based performer Grady West. Dina's shows have been presented throughout Seattle as well as in cities including Provincetown, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco. Martina has shared the bill with acts such as
Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Justin Bond, Nina Hagen and The Village People. West is the recipient of two GLAAD Media Award nominations for Best Off-Off-Broadway Show, two Footlight Awards from The Seattle Times (1999 & 2004), a 1997 nominee for a Seattle Stranger Fringe Theater Award for Best Solo Show, and a finalist for the 2007 Alpert Award.

DINA MARTINA: SITTING OVATIONS runs September 23 - 26, Thursday - Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 9:30pm. The Laurie Beechman Theater is located inside West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street -- at Ninth Avenue, accessible from the A,C,E,N,R,V,F,1,2 & 3 trains at 42nd Street). Tickets are $20 plus a $15 food/drink minimum. To purchase tickets call 212-352-3101 or visit www.SpinCycleNYC.com. Doors open 1 hour before showtime. A full bar and waiter service is available throughout the performance.
