THE FLICK BY ANNIE BAKER (AVERY) - Riverside Theatre Non Equity Auditions

Riverside Theatre in Iowa City is seeking a performer for the role of Avery in its production of the Pulitzer-Prize winning play The Flick by Annie Baker, directed by Angie Toomsen.

This production will be produced in-person in accordance with Actors’ Equity Association’s then-current COVID Safety Requirements. Only fully-vaccinated and boosted artists are being considered at this time.

Rehearsals begin - 11/1/2022
Opening - 11/25/2022
Closing – 12/11/2022
Six-week contract ($300/week)

SYNOPSIS
In a rundown movie theatre in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees tend to one of the last 35mm projectors in the state. Avery, a young cinema lover, is trained by Sam, a funny, unambitious man in his mid-30s and Rose, the rebellious projectionist that Sam longs for. As the theatre transitions to new ownership and to digital projection, the fragile ecosystem of the workplace begin to crumble. The Flick pays tribute to the power of movies and paints a heartbreaking portrait of three characters and their working lives.

BREAKDOWN
AVERY (He/Him) – Early 20s. Black, bespectacled. He wears red, slightly European-looking sneakers. Taking a break from college. Highly intelligent. In love with the movies.

Riverside Theatre encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities, to submit. AEA and Non-AEA performers are being considered.
