THE GAMM THEATRE 2016-17 SEASON **Updated** - The Gamm Theatre

THE GAMM THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR SEASON 32 (2016-2017)

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) will hold auditions for its 32nd seasonas follows: Equity Principal Auditions will be held onSaturday April 30andMonday May 2 from 10 am–1:30 pmand2 pm-5:30 pm. Equity members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits. Non-Equity performers may also audition. Audition slots are limited, however. Auditions will take place at The Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI.

The Gamm is looking to cast various roles in the following plays of the 2016-2017 Season, which starts performances in September and runs through May. The following roles are available:

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, directed by Fred Sullivan, Jr.

Rehearsals begin August 16, 2016. Runs September 15-October 16, 2016.

Roles:

Thomasina Coverly – Preferably 18+ but MUST read 14-17 years old, young woman. Intensley smart, curious, forthright.

Septimus Hodge – Mid-20’s, Thomasina’s tutor. Dashing, smart, charming.

Hannah Jarvis – 40’s, female academic. Unpretentious, smart, tough.

Bernard Nightingale – 40’s, male academic. A peacock and real “charmer.” Caddish, aggressive, endearing.

Valentine Coverly – Mid-late 20’s. Incredibly bright, idealistic.

Lady Croom – 40’s Thomasina Mother. A force of nature, has incredible charm and command.

Captain Brice – 40’s-50’s, Lady Croom’s brother. Alpha male.

Chloe Coverly – 18-21 years old, Valentine Coverly’s sister. Tough, more mature than her years…until she’s not.

Ezra Chater – 30’s-40’s, a very self-unaware poet. Easy butt of jokes, comfortable in desperation.

Noakes – 40’s-50’s, landscape architect. Convinced of his great talent, a bit oblivious to others view of him but not a snob.

*Gus/Augustus Coverly – 12-15 years old, a boy/young man. Inward and taciturn.

American Buffalo by David Mamet, directed by Tyler Dobrowsky

Rehearsals begin October 25, 2016. Runs November 17-December 18, 2016.

Roles:

Walter Cole (“Teach”) has been cast.

Donny Dubrow – late 40’s -50’s, owner of a junk shop. Shrewd, tough and stoic.

Bobby – 20’s to early 30’s, Donny’s surrogate son. Possibly a junky, weak but trying.

The Children’s Hour by Lillian Hellman, directed by Rachel Walshe

Rehearsals begin December 19, 2016. Runs January 12-February 12, 2017.

Roles:

Mrs. Lily Mortar – 40s-50s, a tutor and former actress who never left the stage.

Karen Wright – Late 20’s, headmistress of a girl’s boarding school. Tough, smart and dedicated.

Martha Dobie – Late 20’s, Karen’s partner at the school. Tough but a more tense and conflicted inner life that often betrays her.

Joe Cardin – 30’s, a doctor. Smart, kind but tough and direct. Salt of the earth.

Mary Tilford* – 14 years old, leader of the pack of girls at the school. Tough, manipulative, Whip smart.*

Rosalie Wells* – 12-14 years old. Smart, weak, easily cowed by Mary.

Mrs. Amelia Tilford – 50’s-60’s, Mary’s grandmother. An old-school, monied matriarch, not without compassion but too aware of appearances.

Agatha – 30’s-50’s, Amelia’s maid. Shrewd and knowing. No fool.

The Nether by Jennifer Haley , directed by Judith Swift

Rehearsals begin Feb 7, 2017. Runs March 2– March 26, 2017.

Roles:

Sims – 40’s- 50’s, a businessman. Nothing extraordinary about him.

Morris – 30’s-40’s, female, a detective. Dogged.

Doyle – 40’s-50’s, male, a science teacher. Unassuming.

Woodnut – 30-40, male, a guest to the Nether. An enigma.

Iris* – Must be able to play 9-10 years old, a girl. The picture of innocence.

King Elizabeth, a new version of Schiller’s Mary Stuart, adapted & directed by Tony Estrella

Rehearsals begin , March 28 2017. Runs April 27 – May 28, 2017.

Roles:

Elizabeth and Mary have been cast.

Leicester – 30’s- 40’s, a dashing nobleman. Charming, caught between love and self-preservation.

Mortimer – 20’s, a young nobleman. A zealot, impassioned and self-abnegating.

Paulet – 40’s-50’s, a nobleman and host/jailer to Mary Stuart. Fiercely loyal but with a deep moral feeling.

Burleigh – 50’s, male. A shrewd political operative. Knows where the bodies are buried.

Shrewsbury – 50s-60’s, male. Kindly, fiercely loyal to Elizabeth but not afraid to tell the truth.

Hannah Kennedy – 40’s-60’s, female. Mary’s longtime friend and head of house. Intensley loyal, brave.

*Please note: Non-Equity auditions for teens and young adults will be held at at separate time for actors interested in the roles of Mary, Rosalie and the students in The Children’s Hour; as well asIris in The Nether and Gus/Augustus in Arcadia.

Each performer will be allotted a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. We ask that all performers prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of their choice. Equity Performers only may choose to read from the script(s). The Gamm will provide sides and a reader. Callbacks for individual plays will be announced at a later date.

Please also provide a copy of your headshot/resume at the time of your audition. Two copies of each play will be available at Stage Source's Boston office, 15 Channel Center, Ste. 103, Boston, Mass., at least 10 days before the audition for Equity members' perusal. Copies will also be available at the auditions.

Artistic Director Tony Estrella will be attending all auditions. Minimum weekly salary for equity actors is $386. Minimum weekly salary for equity stage managers is $462.
