October 30-31, November 6 -7 at Battell Center, Mishawaka

R.U.R.: Rossum’s Universal Robots takes place on the island manufacturing facility for Rossum’s Universal Robots, a corporation aiming to improve human society by doing away with labor and toil. Sold worldwide, their Replicant-style robots eventually displace human labor everywhere, and nations look to replace human soldiers with this humanoid technology.

Two representatives of the Humanity League, Helena and Evelyn, visit the factory in hopes of convincing CEO Harry Domin that these robots do in fact have souls and deserve fair conditions and humane treatment. Though the company is initially resistant, Dr. Gall experiments with the robots, both to meet market demand and to satisfy Helena’s wishes. All is well until a sickness spreads amongst the newer models, leading to the creation rebelling against its creator.

A prescient tale about AI takeover, R.U.R. remains as relevant as it was over a century ago in the aftermath of World War I.
