The Liminal Theatre Collective (TLTC), a New York City-based ensemble of multidisciplinary artists dedicated to developing and producing new and reimagined works by artists of color, is thrilled to announce auditions for our First Draft Series, a 29-hour reading of I Hold Both, a new play written and directed by The Liminal Theatre Collective's Founding Artistic Director, Azudi Onyejekwe.

TLTC's First Draft Series offers a space for feedback, refinement, growth, and collaboration for emerging multicultural theatremakers. Our First Draft Series is a program designed to support new works in their earliest stages of development.

Synopsis: What begins as an intimate girls' night in Harlem unravels when a sudden allegation that hits too close to home leaves three women with no way to know the truth and no way to avoid choosing sides.

• Monday, August 10th, 6 to 10 PM

• Tuesday, August 11th, 6 to 10 PM

• Thursday, August 13th, 6 to 10 PM

• Friday, August 14th, 6 to 10 PM

• Saturday, August 15th, 10 AM to 5 PM

• Sunday, August 16th, 10 AM to 12 PM, reading 1 to 5 PM

Invited Reading: August 16th (1:00pm-5:00pm)

Stipend: $50

SEEKING:

NKIRUKA NICOLE NWAEZE: Black woman, early 30s. Nigerian-born (Igbo), immigrated at 14. Corporate lawyer whose precision is both weapon and shield. Too African for Black Americans, too Black for her firm, too analytical to simply feel. Recently engaged to an Igbo man she doesn't love but believes she should marry. Name pronounced: in-KEY-roo-kah. (Must speak with an authentic Nigerian accent)

SARAH SANDERSON: White woman, early 30s. Actress who grew up in Newark, wears box braids with laid edges, dates Black men, speaks AAVE as her first language. The fluency is real, and so is the extraction. Instagram activist whose certainty about survivors is not theoretical, though no one in her life knows why. This role requires an actress who can authentically and fluently speak AAVE.

KENDRA JONES: Black woman, early 30s. Director of Strategic Communications for a national civil rights organization. Professionally fluent in managing optics and crisis, until the crisis is her own. In love with Marcus. The friend who holds space for everyone until no one holds space for her.
