About the Show

Children of Eden is a sweeping, spiritually resonant musical by Stephen Schwartz and John Caird, based on the book of Genesis. The show explores the perennial tensions between parents and children, faith and free will, and the courage to let go.

This concert version will feature selected numbers from the full show, presented with minimal staging but full-hearted performances.

Casting & Role Descriptions

FATHER – Commanding, paternal, protective yet capable of growth.
ADAM / NOAH – Adam: childlike and innocent. Noah: rugged and steadfast.
EVE / MAMA NOAH – Eve: curious, questioning. Mama Noah: strong and maternal.
CAIN / JAPHETH – Cain: rebellious and adventurous. Japheth: defiant yet deeply in love with Yonah.
ABEL / HAM – Abel: conservative, peacemaking. Ham: middle child, capable but less fiery.
SETH / SHEM – Seth: innocence, a second chance. Shem: older, strong presence in Noah’s family.
YONAH – A pivotal role in Act II, daughter of Cain’s line, deeply emotional and in love with Japheth.
ENSEMBLE / STORYTELLERS / CHILDREN / ANIMALS / SNAKE – Flexible casting, featured in many numbers and scenes.

Note: “Double casting” (Adam/Noah, Eve/Mama Noah, etc.) follows traditional casting models for this show.

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule

• Rehearsals begin Tuesday, November 4

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays – Evenings (exact times TBA)

  • Saturdays – During the day (exact times TBA)

• Performance: Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30 PM at West End Church, 245 W 77th Street.

Audition Information

• Prepare a 16-32 bar cut selection (comparable style).

• You may be asked to do a cold reading from the show.

• Please bring a headshot/resume if available.

• For video submissions, include one song and a short monologue (self-accompaniment or track is fine).
