A COMPLICATED HOPE - Kentwood Players at Westchester Playhouse

Kentwood Players will hold open auditions for a staged reading of A COMPLICATED HOPE, an original play by John Mabey on Friday, February 25 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm and Saturday, February 26 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. This is a non-equity, non-paid production directed by Ryan Holihan. The staged reading will take place on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 7:00pm with pay what you can admission at the door.

This reading is open to the public, and everyone ages 12 and over must show proof of vaccination for admittance and everyone regardless of age is required to properly wear a mask while inside the Westchester Playhouse unless performing or auditioning. Auditions and performance both take place at the Westchester Playhouse, located at
8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester, CA 90045, home of the Kentwood Players.

Those auditioning should be prepared to read sides from the play. No appointments are necessary, but please arrive to allow time to sign-in and complete paperwork during scheduled audition times. Please bring a current headshot and resume as well as your calendar as a rehearsal schedule will be posted at auditions and you will be asked to note any conflicts.

Marie and daughter Rose Marie are left adrift after their husband/father, Michael, passes away, leaving behind boyfriend Arnie to discover a family of his own. Mirroring the erratic path of grief, A COMPLICATED HOPE flashes between the moments in time that changed them all. Their journeys explore the challenges of both finding a family of choice and letting yourself be found.

Casting the following roles:

Marie - Female, African American, 40s - 50s
Rose Marie - Marie’s daughter, African American, Early 20s
Arnie - Male, White, 40s - 50s (LGBTQIA+ Preferred)

Free street parking is available on 83rd Street and in the adjoining neighborhood, but not on Hindry Avenue, with left turns restricted on the corner of Hindry and Florence. So please read all traffic and parking signs carefully when you arrive to audition. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the production team at
