Sugu Pillay's SERENDIPITY To Run At BATS 3/17-3/28

By:

Serendipity by Sugu Pillay will be performed at BATS Theatre from Tuesday 17 March to Saturday 28 March (no shows on Sunday or Monday). Show time for this Bronwyn Tweedle-directed play is 9 pm. Tickets cost $16/$13 (concession and groups of 8+). To order tickets email: book@bats.co.nz.

Malini has returned to her family in Christchurch after a mysterious 13-year absence, coming back just in time for her sister’s wedding. She has finally stopped running and now must face her past and the choices that led her away from her home and family.

Can Malini learn to live in a divided world – Heroes/Villains, Tamil/Sinhalese, Maori/Non-Maori, just to name a few of the binary oppositions that govern her identity, her life, her fate.

Serendipity is a modern drama that probes with unflinching honesty the issues that matter to us all – war, terrorism, love, family, cultural and national identity.

The show stars Ban Abdul, Tony Hopkins, Waylon Edwards, Mark Venning-Slater, Aneela Pancha, Patrick Coelho, and Madonna Malaeulu.

Serendipity is proudly sponsored by Creative Communities and EAT Wellington.

BATS Theatre is a intimate venue located in the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes building at 1 Kent Terrace. The venue itself has had a long and varied life, starting originally in the 1930s as The Savage Club, a dance hall and venue for amateur theatre. From the late 60s until 1975 Unity Theatre was in residence, a society with a tradition of left-wing political affiliations and a penchant for work by obscure European dramatists. Unity had a strong core membership which went on and contributed to the growth and success of Downstage and Circa theatres.
