HACKMAN and Downstage share the vision of presenting innovative and boundary-pushing work that excites audiences. APOLLO 13: Mission Control personifies this vision, combining technology, audience interaction and an iconic story to create a completely unique theatre experience.
In the 1960's the space race was at its peak and the APOLLO Moon Program was the absolute forefront of innovation. Working with a fraction of the technology we take for granted today, they managed to reach out for the Moon.
In 2010, APOLLO is again at the forefront of technology and innovation, exploring new frontiers in the performing arts. HACKMAN have re-created the iconic story of APOLLO 13, designing a full scale replica of NASA's Mission Control that puts audiences in the hot seat.
APOLLO 13: Mission Control returns to Downstage after critically-acclaimed seasons at the New Zealand International Arts Festival and the Sydney Opera House earlier in the year. Winner of the Montana Award for Most Original Production of the Year at the 2008 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and most recently awarded the prestigious Gold and Purple Pins in the Spatial category at the Best Design Awards.
