Since its premiere in New Orleans in 1993, "Treehouse Players' Rapunzel" has been a powerhouse family musical. Running in New Orleans for over two years, and earning critical, popular, and award-winning show has toured a five-state area with AmeriCorps, and enjoyed popular productions across the U.S. The last production was twenty years ago. The authors have reunited to? rework the show for the Festival.
This classic tale is reset to Holland, and introduces us to a young couple, Eric and Mary (Richard Meyer and Soline McLain*), who are expecting their first child. They love each other, and Eric loves chocolate. They encounter a chocolatier named Maude (Ashley Smetherman) who gives Mary a special treat called Rapunzel. What follows is a hilarious romp to rescue Rapunzel (Shelbie Mac) complete with a real Prince (Stephen Denning), his faithful herald, Harold (Vatican Lokey*), and a lovely, highly memorable score. Edward R. Cox* returns once again to direct this fun production for the GMNMTF.
This show is for all audiences.
