Loyola’s Jazz Underground Series To Tribute Cannonball and Coltrane 9/29

"Celebrating Cannonball and Coltrane," an evening of jazz honoring an historic recording by musicians John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley, will kick off Loyola University New Orleans' Jazz Underground series on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Satchmo's, located in the Danna Student Center on the university's main campus.
Loyola University jazz studies and saxophone professor Tony Dagradi will lead an outstanding quintet of local musicians in a recreation of the music and spirit of the legendary session between two legendary American saxophonists.Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Loyola faculty and staff, and free for Loyola students. Tickets are available online at www.montage.loyno.edu or by calling 504-865-2074, and will also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance.In 1959, while working in MiLes Davis' sextet, Adderley and Coltrane collaborated on a project which featured their contrasting styles on swinging standards, beautiful ballads and hardbop originals.Dagradi, most well-known for his work with the award winning jazz quartet Astral Project, will be playing Coltrane's parts. Khari Allen Lee, an up and coming force in the New Orleans music scene, will cover the sounds made famous by Adderley.
