Pilobolus Comes to Mayo Performing Arts Center, 4/19
By: Kelsey Denette
Modern dance troupe Pilobolus performs at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 19, 2013. Tickets are $29-59.
Pilobolus has been touted by Newsday as "a mind-blowing troupe of wildly creative and physically daring dancers who leap, fly intertwine and break all of the rules." They redefine the world's understanding of dance through constant evolution, transformation and collaboration, with a method that's intense, fiercely creative and littered with humor. The 2012-13 season marks Pilobolus' 41st year. In keeping with the energy and spirit of its biological namesake---a phototropic fungus that thrives in farmyards--the company has continued to grow toward the light, expanding and refining its unique methods of collective creative production to assemble a repertoire of over 100 choreographic works. While it has become a stable and influential force in the world of dance, Pilobolus remains as protean as ever, looking forward to the next 40 years of collaborating on the future. It's possible that you've seen Pilobolus without realizing it. Perhaps it was their 2007 Academy Awards shape-shifting performances or maybe one of their handful of car commercials or TV appearances on Conan O'Brien or Oprah or their more recent Grammy-nominated viral hit music video collaboration with OK Go.Friday, April 19, 2013 at 8 pm: Tickets: $29-59
