For its ninth season, the Northern New England Repertory Theatre Company (NNE Rep) will present Henrik Ibsen's powerful drama, Hedda Gabler. The Ibsen classic will run for seven performances, tonight, May 30 through June 8, in the Sawyer Center Theater at Colby-Sawyer College in New London.

Trace Oakley returns to New Hampshire as Guest Director having directed last season's highly acclaimed production of Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie. Mr. Oakley has directed more than 50 productions working in his home town of Denver, on both coasts, and on national and international tours. He worked on the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Rollin' on the TOBA, and later stage managed and co-directed the Los Angeles production. Mr. Oakley received a United Nations medal for distinguished service for a U.S. Department of Defense production, which performed at military bases throughout Europe. Recent directing credits include Lovers and Other Strangers (Mirror Theatre, Los Angeles); two world premiere musicals, Bob Cratchit and Mr. Tightwad (Secret Rose Theater) and Pearly Gates at North Hollywood's historic El Portal Theatre.

Of this Ibsen classic, Mr. Oakley writes, "When Henrik Ibsen wrote Hedda Gabler in 1890 he said of his play: 'What I principally wanted to do was to depict human beings, human emotions, and human destinies, upon a groundwork of certain of the social conditions and principles of the present days.' Just like his play, his statement is timeless, because the 'present days' he referred to could easily describe life circa 2013. In many ways Hedda Gabler feels like a play of much more recent vintage than 1890, but few present-day writers can humanize a character like Hedda."

Evening performances of Hedda Gabler begin at 8 PM on May 30, 31, June 1, 6, 7, & 8, with a matinee on June 2 starting at 2 PM. Tickets are $28, with student and group rates available.
