Tuesday, September 20th at 8pm, Stranger Than Fiction Improv and Comedy returns to Seacoast Rep for their Fall/Winter/Spring residency with Not at First Sight: an Improvised Romantic Comedy and homage to the screwball comedies of the 1930's, 40's and 50's.

Boy meets girl. There's tension. First impressions will be challenged, traditional conventions defied. Throw in some witty repartee, farcical scheming, a little slapstick, and you've got yourself a love story. One of American cinemas' most enduring and charming genres, the screwball romantic comedy definitely has something for everyone. Think the playfulness and humor of It Happened One Night, His Girl Friday, or Some Like It Hot, but improvised! The entirety of the story will be created on the spot based on audience suggestion.

Stranger Than Fiction's current Artistic Director Tara McDonough had this to say about Not at First Sight, "This show was inspired by two things: my love of old movies and Seacoast Rep's set for Laughter on the 23rd Floor. I've wanted to do an improvised play on a set for a long time, and finally it's possible, thanks to our improv troupe's partnership with The Rep. The office set they're planning for Laughter on the 23rd Floor reminded me of His Girl Friday or Teacher's Pet and inspired our exploration of the screwball comedy genre with its fast-paced dialogue and unlikely romantic pairings, it's perfect for improvisers!"

The tenderness of romance mixed with the spontaneity of improvised comedy promises to be a whimsical and enchanting ride. For tickets and more information, visit http://www.seacoastrep.org/tickets or call the box office at 603-433-4472.

Stranger Than Fiction will also be teaching another round of adult improv classes through the Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts, including a free improv workshop on the 21st at the RepNorth Studios at 1 Raynes Avenue from 6:30-8:30pm. For more info, visit Seacoastrep.org/stf
