"Fortress" a crochet installation by artist Tiffany Dyer will be on exhibit at Blend Studio, 79 Arcade building, downtown Nashville. The opening reception will be Saturday, May 7th from 6-9pm during the First Saturday Gallery Crawl.

Fortress, according to the World English Dictionary, is a noun meaning a place or source of refuge or support. Artist Tiffany Dyer has collected and created crochet pieces that will take over the gallery space. She is creating a fortress from abandon crochet afghans and other hand crochet items. She is questioning the idea of home and safety within by creating a fantastical place where one can get lost in the shapes, colors and textures. From large round, crochet objects hanging from above to small pockets of mystery on the wall this will be an experience of childhood memories and adult fantasies.

Small, soft sculpture houses will be for sale with proceeds benefiting Safe Haven Family Shelter. Safe Haven provides shelter and transitional services that empower Middle Tennessee homeless families with children to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.

Tiffany Dyer is an installation and fiber artist residing in Nashville, Tennessee. Using re-purposed, salvaged and scavenged materials and incorporating interactive and participatory elements into her installations. She focuses on and explores issues of collectivity, opportunity, and labor. Embracing notions of she offers alternatives to static, single voiced art production.
