Talisman Theatre Stages The Montreal English Premiere of THE AENEID, Now thru March 15

Talisman Theatre will present The Aeneid, written by Olivier Kemeid, translated by Judith Miller, and directed by Zach Fraser, today, March 6-Saturday, March 15.

Sometimes flight is necessary, leaving everything behind in pursuit of a new place to call home. Kemeid's The Aeneid is a dynamic blend of epic legend and contemporary reality. Rich with scenes of moving drama and biting humour, Kemeid's version of this classic tale migrates the search for a homeland into the modern world of middle-eastern revolution. In this powerful and disturbing new adaptation, we encounter tourist resorts, refugee camps and immigration officers, but the mythic magic of the original epic remains in a visit to Hades and encounters with underworld spirits.

The Aeneid's message is as relevant today as when it was originally written: the importance of family, friends and a place called 'home'. The Aeneid explores the refugee experience in Quebecois writing. This is also the first time Kemeid's play will be staged using puppetry.

The Aeneid will feature actor/puppeteers Marcelo Arroyo, Deena Aziz, and Chimwemwe Miller. It will also feature set design by Lyne Paquette and Fruzsina Lanyi, costume design by Fruzsina Lanyi, lighting design by David Perrault Ninacs, sound design by Nikita U, and puppet design by Zach Fraser.

Performances of The Aeneid will take place at Talisman Theatre at Theatre La Chapelle, 3700 rue St. Dominique. Performances are Tuesday to Saturday at 8:00 pm, with a matinee on Saturday, March 15 at 3:00pm. Tickets can be purchased by calling 514 843-7738 or at www.talisman-theatre.com.
