Talisman Theatre Hosts 5th Anniversary Celebration
Talisman's Theatre's upcoming show, Coma Unplugged, marks the 5th anniversary for the company, no mean feat in today's cultural climate. The anniversary coincides with the 50th anniversary of The National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) - kudos there! Talisman is founded by two NTS alumni (Lyne Paquette and Emma Tibaldo), the design team is made up of NTS graduates, and the company employs mostly NTS actors. Coma Unplugged's performance on Oct. 25 will be a fundraiser for Talisman Theatre that celebrates both anniversaries. The event will be held from 5 à 7 at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal and will be followed by an 8pm performance of Coma Unplugged, written by Pierre-Michel Tremblay, translated by Micheline Chevrier and directed by Zach Fraser--all of whom will be present. If you have already seen the show, please come for the 5 à 7!
The soirée will welcome three guest speakers:Simon Brault, Director General of The National Theatre School of Canada, Vice-Chair of Canada Council for the Arts. Mr. Brault, one of Canada's foremost 'Cultural Crusaders', will speak briefly on the importance of English language arts fin Montreal's culture.
Matthew Jocelyn, Artistic & General Director of Canadian Stage. Mr. Jocelyn will talk about his vision of this Bold New Era and the 21st century aesthetic of trans-disciplinary theatre.
Emma Tibaldo, Artistic and Executive Director of Playwright's Workshop Montreal. Emma will give a short eulogy for Montreal actress Catherine Colvey who, sadly, passed away. Catherine starred in Talisman's 2010 production The Flood Thereafter. Tickets for the show are being sold at the regular price of $25. Artistic Director Lyne Paquette invites guests to enjoy finger food, with a suggested donation of $5 to $500 for a glass of wine for the Fundraiser. All proceeds go to supporting Montreal's fine actors, designers, and directors. Please book your tickets for the performance well in advance to be sure of a seat.
