Infinitheatre Presents Write-On-Q! Contest and The Pipeline Series, Dec 2013

By:

Every year Infinithéâtre looks for innovative, challenging and exciting new works by Québec playwrights. Plays developed by Infinithéâtre have been performed in and around Montréal, Stratford Ontario, New York, Tokyo, Cairo, Toronto, and in Ottawa at the NAC.

For the past five years, a major source of Infinithéâtre's new plays has been its annual Write-on-Q! Québec playwriting competition.

This year's jury, chaired by Maureen Labonté, with Gerry Lipnowski, Irene Smyth and Alyson Grant, is excited to announce the 2013 winners.

First Place, Pam Dunn Prize, $3000: For the Love of Gracie Gray, by Andrea Boyd (in The Pipeline, Sun. Dec. 8).

From the Jury, "For the Love of Gracie Gray is a warm-hearted and affectionate portrayal of a lonely woman's journey from alienation to connection. It is fresh, funny and magical. Gracie's real and illusionary relationships reveal compelling insights into the lives of three marginalized people. Well-paced with an effective mix of humour and pathos, For the Love of Gracie Gray is thought-provoking while creating a sense of wonder and delight."

Runner-up Prize, $2000: Boycott This!, by Oren Safdie (in The Pipeline, Sat. Dec. 7)

From the Jury, "Boycott This! is a smart, ambitious and accomplished piece of writing very deserving of our full and enthusiastic support. The play has compelling characters and a complex and layered structure that provides an intelligent and personal exploration of Middle Eastern politics. Boycott This! will definitely challenge and intrigue audiences."

Wednesday, December 4 - Sunday, December 8, 2013 - The Pipeline, an annual series of free public readings, kicks off on Wed. Dec. 4 by presenting a guest reading by Brave New Productions- Fear Liath by Michael Mitchell.
