On December 26, 1831, Norma by Vincenzo Bellini is presented at La Scala in Milan and failure is cooking. It's hard to believe today that this directory key work could encounter such a failure. But Bellini was not mistaken: he had from the beginning aware of the value of its partition. By the second night, Norma met public support. The timeless strength of the book is certainly found in his poignant melodies but also the density of its main character. Mother attempted infanticide, moved by his gesture in a vengeful madness, Norma is a forerunner in the mythological Medea. Bellini's opera focuses on the inner drama of his heroine, his wife scorned torment and perjury priestess, on his courage and fragility, its baseness and greatness of soul.
