Jeremy Terry Productions announces the world premiere performances of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, a new play by Brendan Jones. The original score for the show is by Aaron Latina. Directed by Fiona Lotti, the show features choreography by Gina Light, costume design by Tyler Carlton Williams and scenic design by Jeremy Terry. Taryn Verley serves as Executive Director.

Starring Jonathon Dull, Jeremy Johnson, and Kaitlin Noble, and featuring Paul Brissett, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King will be presented as part of the 2016 Minnesota Fringe Festival at the Ritz Theatre Mainstage (345 13th Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN).

Based on the book by ETA Hoffman and the beloved Nutcracker Ballet, the show dives into the background of the characters you thought you knew. Marie Stahlbaum (Noble) is a rebellious spirit, forced to grow up in a very proper and sensible household. Her world changes one Christmas eve when her Godfather Drosselmeire (Brissett) arrives. He gives her a Nutcracker doll and shares with her the story of its past. She learns of the magical Land of Sweets, where two friends (Dull and Johnson) turn against each other when they encounter betrayal, loss, love, and magic. Marie realizes that their final battle is coming tonight, and she may be the key to winning. The cast also features Kelly Anderson, Anna Baker, John Michael Bradshaw, Lily Hart, Christopher Kent, Emily Kueppers, and Mason Tyer.

Co-creator and Executive Director Taryn Verley originated the idea for this version of the classic Christmas tale. After seeing a production of The Nutcracker Ballet in 2012, she was inspired to research the story of Marie, the Nutcracker, and the Mouse King. In E.T.A. Hoffman's original novel, she found the background of the characters that was missing from the ballet. She brought the idea to Brendan Jones, who began to develop the script for the show.
