Trademark Theater celebrates its inaugural year with The Boy and Robin Hood, a play-with-music written by Tyler Mills with score and lyrics by local composer David Darrow. The production, conceived and directed by Tyler Michaels, runs at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis, May 24 - June 11. Tickets are now on sale online at www.trademarktheater.org.

This world premiere production deconstructs the Robin Hood myth and gathers inspiration from 15th and 16th century English and Scottish ballads, the first tales written of the legendary figure. The Boy and Robin Hood tells the story of a young boy who enters the forest in search of the stories he has heard of Robin Hood and his Merry Band. This original production examines how quickly violence can escalate and what is revealed when our heroes become real.

"When we set out to write The Boy and Robin Hood, Tyler and I wanted to breathe a new life into a well-known traditional story," said playwright Tyler Mills. "We chose the Robin Hood myth as the basis for our piece because when we researched the early ballads, we found an escalation of violence theme that we think is very relevant to the world we live in today."

"The Boy and Robin Hood not only brings us deep into a tale that we all grew up with but it gives us a new perspective that resonates with modern day audiences, which makes for a highly entertaining and exciting piece of theatre. It is those clashing of ideas that is really motivating us." said Tyler Michaels, Founder and Artistic Director of Trademark Theater. "I'm extremely proud of our first production and the dedication from our team and talents to make Trademark's first piece possible. Tyler, David, and I have been hard at work for nearly two years developing the concepts, sounds, and script. Now we get to add in a truly stellar cast and crew, who will really bring it all to life! I could not be more thrilled with the people we have on board."

Tyler Mills wrote the book for the musical Jonah and the Whale that premiered to sold out audiences in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio in December of 2014 and had its East Coast premiere at Stoneham Theatre in February of 2017. His other plays include Hello Stranger, one of the most reviewed shows of the 2013 Fringe Festival and To The Moon, winner of its venue's Encore Performance in the 2015 Fringe.

The Boy and Robin Hood is directed by Tyler Michaels and features the talents of: Anna Baker, Nathan Barlow, Tim Beeckman Davis, Ben Dutcher, Elizabeth Hawkinson, Theo Langason, Lars Lee, Ryan London Levin, Peder Lindell, Riley McNutt, Jason A. Rojas, Paul Rutledge, and Kendall Anne Thompson.
