The Guthrie Presents TALES FROM THE BOOK OF LONGING, Runs 10/8-10/18 At Dowling Studio

The Guthrie will present Tales from the Book of Longing conceived, directed and choreographed by Stuart Pimsler with Suzanne Costello, founders and artistic co-directors of the nationally-acclaimed Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT). Inspired by the poetry of Leonard Cohen and the music of Antony and The Johnsons, Tales from the Book of Longing unfolds in an episodic landscape of sinuous moments out of reach and quiet scenes of missed chances. The evening-length work of signature SPDT weaves its way through a world of frayed relationships teetering on The Edge of change. SPDT's virtuosic performance ensemble, including recent recipients of McKnight and SAGE Awards for Outstanding Dance Performance, draw spectators into an emotionally-charged collection of imagistic stories. Tales from the Book of Longing will run October 8 - October 18 in the Dowling Studio. Single tickets are priced from $18 to $30, with a limited number of premium tickets available for opening night. Tales begins with the haunting, soulful singing of a solitary voice as a man runs his hands over a giant, fragile page. This opening image foreshadows the theatrical heart of Tales in which performers search for hints regarding the viscera of longing. As another page is ripped from the Book, performers desperately embrace and fleetingly engage as intimate, physical stories are told. SPDT returns to the Dowling Studio following its sold-out presentation of The Ends of Love during the Guthrie's inaugural season. The full-length performance features the SPDT ensemble of seven dancers as well as a production team consisting of Karin Olson (Lighting Design), Joe Stanley (Stage Design), Sonya Berlovitz (Costume Design) and Chris Cunningham (Sound Design)

Tales from the Book of Longing will feature Brian Evans, Cade Holmseth, Kari Mosel, Laura Selle Virtucio, Roxane Wallace, Suzanne Costello and Stuart Pimsler.
