IOLANTHE to Play The Underground in Duluth
Since its sparkling premiere in 1882, the fantastical IOLANTHE has delighted audiences with its clever combo of romance, humor, political satire, and memorable musical numbers that made Gilbert and Sullivan household names for years to come.
A shepherd named Strephon (the son of a fairy, IOLANTHE, and a mortal) is in love with Phyllis, a shepherdess. He wants to marry her, but, although Phyllis loves Strephon, she has a dilemma -- she is so beautiful that all of the House of Lords, as well as her guardian, the Lord Chancellor, also want to marry her! There are many complications, including the peers being threatened by Fairies, before a happy ending can be had by all.
Directed by Jeffrey Madison (who also directed the last season's Trial by Jury), IOLANTHE is playing at The Underground from March 3-6th (Thursday-Saturdat at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm).
