Matrix Theatre Company Presents Detroit Dreaming Film Festival, Now thru 1/27
Matrix Theatre Company presents its inaugural Detroit Dreaming Film Festival (DDFF) today, January 25 running through Sunday, January 27. Each of the 11 featured films focus on Detroit, and through a diversity of techniques and subject matter, they showcase the diversity, struggles and triumphs of the city.
Categories include narrative and documentary features and shorts. The opening night reception takes place today, January 25 from 7 - 8 pm and offers the audience a chance to mingle with the filmmakers before a presentation of the popular feature documentary Deforce. Prices for all film blocks during the Festival are a suggested donation of $5 per block, and a schedule for the entire weekend can be found at www.detdreamingfilmfest.org. There will be "talk-backs," dialogues between the audience, artists and staff, after each block. An award will be presented for each category at a special ceremony on Sunday, January 27 at 7:30 pm. The 2013 DDFF offers a wide range of subject matter and techniques. "Films feature everything from documentaries on the Arab Israeli crisis transported to Michigan, to a documentary on the infamous Brewster Douglas Projects in Detroit. Documentary features include Deforce, the popular documentary which chronicles the City's long struggle with political oppression, and narrative features include Detroit Winter, the story of a morally desensitized, wise-cracking jerk who suffers the consequences of a hit and run accident. We are excited about some of these films that really think outside the box," said Matrix Director of Production Megan Buckley. "There's a lot of buzz about this festival."
