Grosse Pointe Theatre offers January Classes in Acting and Play Writing

Grosse Pointe Theatre is offering three adult theatre classes this January: two acting classes and one class on play writing. Classes will be held at Grosse Pointe Theatre's rehearsal facility located at 315 Fisher Road (south of Maumee/Grosse Pointe Boulevard) in Grosse Pointe. Call 313-881-4004 to register.

The play writing class begins on Monday, January 18 at 7:30 p.m. Award-winning playwright Kim Carney will instruct and mentor students on the fundamentals of dramatic structure, character creation and plot development, assisting them in writing their own short plays. Each student's piece will be read aloud and discussed as it progresses. Fees are $75 for GPT members and $100 non-members. This class is limited to the first 10 registrants.

A ten-week class in the second level of the GPT Actors Studio concept will be held on Tuesdays, starting on January 19th. This class features advanced duo scene development, resulting in a final performance for an audience on the last night of class. GPT members pay $75.00. The non-member fee is $100.00. This class is limited to the first 12 registrants.

lay e Pointe Theatre is offering three theatre classes this January, two acting classes and a class on play writing.A six-week class for both beginners and experienced actors entitled, "See, You can Act! An Actors Studio Intro" will be held on Mondays, beginning January 25th, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The fee is $60.00 for Grosse Pointe Theatre members. The non-member fee is $85.00. This class is limited to the first 12 registrants. The class will feature video feedback with each student receiving a DVD of their exercises, and a private one hour one-on-one analysis.

Both acting classes will be taught by Harry Burkey, who has experience both on stage and before the camera. Mr. Burkey will help new actors learn and experienced actors improve. He will demonstrate that everyone is capable of acting and the benefits of continuing education for established actors. The classes are a must for anyone who has not used video feedback to reinforce their acting skills.

Grosse Pointe Theatre membership is open to those over age 18. Dues are $30 annually. Class capacity is limited, so those interested are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible.
