A testament to womens strength and resiliency is on full display in the tender-hearted favorite Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling. The setting is Truvys Louisiana beauty salon where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Filled with hilarious repartee and humorously revealing verbal collisions, the ladies draw on their underlying strengthand loveto make them marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. The play is alternately hilarious and touchingand, in the end, deeply revealing of the womens fortitude. Steel Magnolias tugs at the heart while making us laugh. Its a true story based on the playwrights diaries about the lives of his sister, his mother and his mothers friends, said director Donna Amaru. The characters in the play represent real people who portray the love, strength, camaraderie and empowerment of the sisterhood of women. This touching portrait and celebration of womens strength will be on stage at A.C.T. January 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23.
