Van Wezel Announces Free Fridayfest 6/25
The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will present its first outdoor summer concert this year on Friday, June 25, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
For the first concert of the series of four, Yesterdayze, a sixties tribute band with great vocals, will recreate your favorite songs from the 60's. The era changed modern music forever. Every tune a Top-40 hit from 1960 to 1969-the Beatles, the Stones, The 5th Dimension, Steppenwolf, The Rascals-from Motown to the British Invasion, from Elvis to Hendrix, from Aretha to Warwick, Yesterdayze delivers a non-stop blast from the past you will never forget. The six-member band has Mary Lu Kinlaw on guitar, flute and vocals; Alex Kinlaw, keyboards and vocals; Marty Bednar, bass and vocals; Howlin' Bob Fieberts plays lead guitar and does vocals; Michael Finley, drums and vocals; and Mike Carden plays percussion and does vocals.
The presenting sponsor for the entire FridayFest Series of Concerts is Gettel Automotive Family of Dealerships. The first concert with Yesterdayze is sponsored by Gettel Acura. Additional sponsors for the FridayFest series are Comcast, Bright House Networks, Budweiser, 107.9 WSRZ, (June 25 only), ABC 7, Pelican Press (June 25 event only), Creative Loafing, The Observer Group, Doctors Hospital (June 25 event only), The Van Wezel Foundation, Boar's Head, Waste Services of Florida, InterMedia Productions, Cameresi Designs and Rotary Club of Sarasota Bay. The concert series is paid for in part by Sarasota County Tourist Development Tax Revenues.
FridayFest takes place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the Festival will move indoors to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Guests are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Local vendors offer food and beverages. Outside food and drink are prohibited; coolers and weapons of any kind are prohibited as well.
For the best mix in music, add one part bandstand, one part sunset and one part shimmering Sarasota Bay and what do you get? FridayFest is an ideal way to unwind after a busy week and usher in another great weekend in Paradise.
