For one night only, the critically acclaimed and international world music ensemble Kodo will perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center of the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County on March 14, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the acoustically brilliant John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.

Through its dedicated artistry and deep respect for the Japanese taiko drum, Kodo fuses thunderous beats, traditional dance and martial arts with innovative interpretations - offering audiences a mystical and exciting experience in witnessing the Japanese performing arts.  The ensemble spends its time overseas, touring throughout Japan, and preparing contemporary and original material on Sado Island.

Kodo has drawn new life from the traditional Japanese drum, unraveling a multitude of instrumental sounds in fresh, evocative ways.  In Japanese, the word "Kodo" expresses two meanings: "heartbeat" and "children of the drum."

Kodo has showcased thousands of performances across five continents and 43 countries.  From Croatia to America's Carnegie Hall, Kodo has bestowed  performances for audiences worldwide since 1981.

"We are extremely honored to bring this legendary and distinguished percussion extravaganza to our South Florida community," expressed John Richard, President and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center.  "Through its intense performance, Kodo manifests one of the many facets of the rich, traditional Japanese culture in a powerful and stellar performance."

"We are pleased to support Kodo's riveting performance which honors our traditional Japanese, heritage pays tribute to our culture, and brings a taste of Asia's love of drums to South Florida music aficionados," stated Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Consul General, Consulate-General of Japan in Miami.

"I hope that Kodo's performance awakens a primal space within your body where you can feel the very pulse of the universe running through you," said Takao Aoki, Kodo Managing Director.

"Heart of the beat - Kodo goes as far back as the cave for its intoxicating pulses." - Chicago Tribune.

"Kodo's music can raise the roof!" - The New York Times
